IPTV Movie Playlists Explained

How your subscription's playlist delivers movies to your player, and which login type gives the best movie experience.

Updated 3 min read

An IPTV playlist is the list of streams your subscription gives you access to. It's personal to your account: your player loads it with your login details. Never use playlists shared publicly online; they are often unlicensed, unsafe and unreliable.

Xtream Codes API vs. M3U

  • Xtream Codes API (server URL, username and password): the app downloads movies and series as a separate library with posters, descriptions and categories. This is the best option for films.
  • M3U playlist URL: one link that lists streams. Some apps split movies out automatically; others show every film as an entry in a long channel-style list.

Why movies appear as channels

If your movies appear mixed in with live channels, your app is probably reading an M3U playlist without VOD support. Switch to the Xtream Codes login if your app offers it, or choose an app that separates VOD content.

Keeping your playlist up to date

Libraries change over time. Refresh or reload your playlist in the app's settings to see newly added movies. Some apps can refresh automatically on start-up.
