IPTV VOD movies, explained simply
What video on demand means on IPTV, how it differs from live TV, and how your player loads the VOD library.
Guide
What is IPTV VOD?
Video on demand (VOD) is content you choose and start yourself, rather than a channel broadcasting on a schedule. On IPTV, the VOD library typically holds movies and TV series.
Because each VOD stream starts just for you, you can pause, rewind, skip ahead and resume later, which isn't possible on most live channels.
VOD vs. live TV
- Live TV: scheduled channels, programme guide (EPG), and you join whatever is airing.
- VOD: a browsable library with posters and descriptions, where you press play on what you choose.
- Both use the same login and count towards your simultaneous connections while playing.
How the VOD library loads in your app
With the Xtream Codes login, your app downloads the VOD catalogue separately from live channels. Large libraries can take a few minutes the first time. If the section stays empty, see movies not loading. For the difference between login types, read IPTV movie playlists explained.
Getting the best from VOD
- Use an app with proper VOD support: see movie apps.
- Enable resume playback so films continue where you stopped.
- Turn on subtitles or change the audio track from the player menu.
- Pick the HD or 4K version that matches your screen and connection.
Questions and answers
Is VOD included with IPTV subscriptions?
It depends on the service. Where on-demand content is included, it uses the same login as live channels and appears as a separate section in your player.
Why does my app only show live channels?
You may be signed in with an M3U playlist in an app that doesn't separate VOD. Try the Xtream Codes login, or use an app with VOD support.
Can I download VOD movies to watch offline?
No. VOD content is streamed. You need an internet connection while watching.
