How to Add Subtitles to IPTV Movies

Turn on built-in subtitle tracks, load your own subtitle files and fix timing or size problems.

Updated 4 min read

Subtitles on IPTV movies come from one of two places: tracks embedded in the video file, or a separate subtitle file (usually .srt) that the player loads alongside it. What you can do depends on your player app.

Turn on built-in subtitles

  1. Start playing the movieSubtitle options usually only appear once playback has started.
  2. Open the player menuPress OK, Menu or the options button on your remote, or tap the screen on mobile.
  3. Choose the subtitle trackLook for Subtitles, CC or a speech-bubble icon, then pick a language. "Off" or an empty list means the file has no embedded subtitles.

Load an external subtitle file

Some players (for example general media players on computers, and certain Android players) can load a subtitle file you supply, or search an online subtitle database. Look for an option such as Add subtitle, Load subtitle file or Online subtitles in the playback menu. Only use subtitle files you're allowed to use.

Fix subtitles that are out of sync

  • Use the player's subtitle delay or offset setting to move subtitles earlier or later in small steps.
  • Make sure an external file matches the exact version (runtime and frame rate) of the movie.
  • Switch between the hardware and software decoder if subtitles drift during playback.

Change size, colour and position

Most players have subtitle style options in Settings: increase the size for TVs viewed from a distance, and add a background or outline for readability on bright scenes.

Questions

Why don't I see any subtitle options?

The movie file may not contain subtitle tracks, or your player may not support them. Try a different player app, or load an external subtitle file if your player allows it.
